CEMA EXECUTIVE BOARD MEMBERS
Responsibilities, Principles & Values Pledge

CEMA Executive Board Members are expected to adopt the values and principles outlined below to help build a sustainable organization that empowers all its members and employees and looks after their best interest in all activities undertaken and decisions made.  Individuals cooperating with one another do make a difference in the quality of our lives, institutions, and environment.  To this end, the CEMA Executive Board Members pledge to the following:

  • Take responsibility and be accountable for completing the work accepted and CEMA volunteer activities entrusted to CEMA Executive Board Members;
  • Attend all Executive Board Meetings;
  • Be on time to all CEMA Executive Board Meetings;
  • Actively participate in all the Executive Board Meetings attended;
  • Take responsibility for conducting orderly, timely and efficient Board meetings and make decisions only after obtaining all the information required;
  • Carry out decisions made by the Board with timely implementation and follow through;
  • Become familiar with CEMA’s financial statements. Promote fiscal responsibility and ensure that CEMA expenditures are in line with the proposed budget and with projected revenues;
  • Chair and actively participate in at least one active CEMA committee (e.g., Political Action, Communications, Membership, serving as delegate for the South Bay Labor Council, etc.);
  • Actively participate and follow through in CEMA political action endeavors (such as phone banking, precinct walking, etc.);
  • Continuously look for way to involve members on CEMA Committees, as site Liaisons, on   Negotiations Committees and other activities of CEMA;
  • Reach out to recruit new members by sharing CEMA information;
  • Recruit and organize members to become involved in CEMA activities;
  • Respect and affirm other Board members. Avoid uncaring criticism, impulsive remarks, and hateful words or attacks;
  • Nurture the talents and well-being of each Board member and promote healthy relationships based on mutual appreciation and respect;
  • Listen carefully to everyone, especially those that disagree and consider their feelings and needs;
  • Respect and protect privileged and confidential information learned as an officer of CEMA and not utilize it in any way other than as part of CEMA business;
  • Avoid focusing on personal issues at the expense of what is best for the majority of the membership;
  • Refrain from engaging in activities that could reasonably be viewed as in conflict with the official duties of a CEMA officer;
  • Not accept or receive any gifts, cash, personal favor, or financial gain based on the official position held with CEMA;
