The news of VTA’s tragic shootings leaves us with heavy hearts.
VTA is part of our County family and in fact, more than 20 years ago was a County Department, the managers of whom were represented by CEMA. We hold the victims and their families in our hearts. This message, however, is not just one of well wishes but a notice that your Board and Union will be contemplating what more we can do than offer well wishes after shootings like the Gilroy Garlic Festival Massacre and now today's tragedy. This is a larger conversation that will involve all CEMA members committed to workplace safety, mental health and what we need to do to protect our friends, co-workers and family.
Special thanks and recognition to the rapid response by our own Santa Clara County Sheriff Deputies, Emergency Services Staff and the wonderful health care professionals at Valley Medical Center that took in many of the wounded and critically injured. Also our coroner for the difficult investigatory tasks to follow. Thanks to you CEMA heroes out there as well as all others who helped, a thankful Union and Community appreciate you always.
